A 4-day Ski-Focused Winter Itinerary in Big Sky, MT

If you’re looking to make the most out of a long 4-day weekend or simply have a 4-day mid-week ski trip planned in Big Sky, this is the itinerary for you.  With a strong focus on skiing at Big Sky Resort, we’ll map out the best plans to ensure you maximize every day. 

 

skiingDay 1: 

Morning Arrival: 

  • Check in to accommodations, preferably on the mountain with quick access to Big Sky Resort, and grab your rental gear. 
  • Head to Big Sky Resort and hit the slopes to warm up the ski legs till 4 pm.
  • Grab a quick lunch from Yeti Dogs or the Hungry Moose in The Exchange. 
  • At 4 pm -- head back to your accommodations, dip into the hot tub, and unwind. 
  • 5-7 pm -- stroll the mountain village at Big Sky Resort and grab dinner at Montana Jack or Westward Social. 
  • 8-10 pm -- drink plenty of water and head to bed for an early start the next day. 

 

Afternoon/Evening Arrival:

  • Check in to accommodations, preferably on the mountain with quick access to Big Sky Resort, and grab your rental gear. 
  • 4-7 pm -- stroll the mountain village at Big Sky Resort. Pick up your Sky Card from the Sky Card Express Station, so you are ready to go for the following day.  Grab dinner at Chet’s Bar & Grille or the Carabiner Lounge. 
  • 8-10 pm -- drink plenty of water and head to bed for an early start the next day. 

 

Late Night Arrival:

  • Plan to grab food/groceries in Belgrade or Bozeman before arriving in Big Sky.  Restaurants generally stop seating at 8:45 pm. (We strongly recommend calling restaurants to verify ahead of time).
  • Check-in to accommodations, preferably on the mountain with quick access to Big Sky Resort. Plan ahead to have your rental gear delivered to your hotel or vacation rental before the first chair at 9 am the next day. Drink plenty of water and head to bed for an early start.

 


Day 2: Ski and stay
  • 7-9 am -- wake up and head to Big Sky Resort. 
  • Grab coffee and a quick snack at Treeline Coffee Roasters or the Mocha in the Huntley at Big Sky Resort.
  • 8:30-9 am -- head to the lifts. 
  • 11:30-1 pm -- ski your way over to the north side of Big Sky Resort and grab lunch at the Headwaters Grille, or if you don’t want to miss a moment on the mountain, grab a panini from Uncle Dan’s at the base of the Six Shooter.  
  • 1 pm - 4 pm -- finish your day skiing the north side, then head back to the main base area where you’ll drop your skis off with the ski valet for the night, making it easy to get back on the mountain the next morning. 
  • 4 pm -- après and appetizers at Carabiner. 
  • 5-7 pm -- after a big first day on the slopes, have an easy night in and order Pizza delivered by Blue Moon Bakery. 

 

Day 3 Skiing
  • 7-9 am -- wake up and head to Big Sky Resort. 
  • Grab coffee and a breakfast burrito at Vista Hall. 
  • 8:30-9 am -- ensure you have a tram ride added to your Sky card and head to the lifts. 
  • 10 - 12:30 pm -- experience the Lone Peak Tram.  If you are uncomfortable skiing from the peak, make it a scenic ride. 
  • 12:30-2 pm -- take the Ramcharger 8 lift and ski over to Scissorbills Saloon or The Cabin for a late lunch. 
  • 4 pm -- finish your ski day and get ready to explore the town center of Big Sky.  
  • 4-7 pm -- shuttle or drive down the mountain to town center.  Stroll the shops and grab last-minute souvenirs from The Trove and East Slope Outdoors. Have reservations planned in advance for dinner at Olive B’s Bistro, Michelangelo’s, Block 3, or Blue Buddha. 
  • 8-10 pm -- Enjoy some entertainment and libations at Tips Up or The Waypoint. 

 

Day 4:  Family Friendly Ski trip
  • Indulge in a slow morning and check out of accommodations. 
  • Have arrangements made for your rental gear to be picked up or returned. 
  • Grab a full breakfast at Cafe 191 as you head out of town. 
  • Bid farewell to Big Sky and plan for your return trip!
