In Big Sky, it’s normal to wear flip flops all day and climb into flannel sheets and heavy quilts at night. That translates into warm, sunny summer days and cool evenings with star-filled night skies.
Founded in 1973 as a winter Alpine ski resort, Big Sky has grown and prospered, now seeing more than half a million visitors every winter. Many of these skiers have become year-round residents delighting in the low humidity and mild temperatures of a Rocky Mountain summer, having relocated from hot, humid climates. The average temperature in July is 74 degrees.
With open space and natural beauty just out your door, you might have to choose between taking a hike on area trails or Yellowstone Park trails just down the road, using a road bike for paved bike paths or mountain bike for off-road adventures, rafting or kayaking the Gallatin River, fly fishing on a nearby trout stream, engaging in a game of golf or tennis, or sitting on your deck enjoying a summer mountain day. For a summit thrill, take the Lone Peak Expedition Tram to the Top. Perhaps you’ll have to stay long enough to sample and enjoy all that Big Sky offers summer visitors.
